This can make for some very funny pictures that put the guest of honor in a different body or costume. (Think South Pacific's Luther Billis, the sailor with the comic streak as "Honey Bun" entertaining the sailors and nurses, decked out in coconut shell bra, grass skirt and blonde wig). Dreamy cake photos are also fun where some photo wizardry depicts the guest of honor on the sands of a Hawaiian beach, riding the surf, sleeping under a palm tree…well you get the idea.

When  planning creative luau birthday cake ideas for your senior, also  consider nostalgic themes with vintage Hawaii designs, which the older  generations appreciate.

Luau Birthday Parties for Seniors

Hawaiian luau birthday parties are fun for all ages and take on a special meaning for seniors. A Hawaiian luau is a wonderful way to celebrate an older one's birthday. It can be so much fun that the tutu or tutu kane doesn't mind growing another year older, not if it means another birthday luau.

Hawaiian Luau Birthday Cake

Unique and fun cakes for seniors include photo cakes that display a nostalgic and much younger picture of the guest of honor. Other popular photos are family pictures with the birthday gal or guy. Many professional cake decorators have the tools to create these - a printer and icing cartridges, but you can find the supplies and decorations online. Basically, the photo is scanned into the computer, and the photo is printed with icing on edible sugar paper.

Putting a Hawaiian twist on a birthday photo cake is easy with Photoshop or any photo editor that lets you manipulate photos by switching body parts, backgrounds and the like.

Hawaiian Luau Birthday Party Theme

As with planning the cake ideas, you can also create party theme ideas based on the guest of honor's personality and interests. If he's a golf nut, decorate the walls with posters of famous Hawaiian golf courses, for example. Adding a poster of Thurston Howell playing golf on Gilligan's with an avocado seed, better yet.

Is the guest of honor an Elvis fan? Perfect – since the King of Rock 'n Roll was also a huge fan of Hawaii with a home on Oahu, one of the locations for his Blue Hawaii. Purchase some posters of Blue Hawaii and/or his other Hawaiian movies and Aloha from Hawaii concert and hang them on the patio or luau venue walls travel office style. Some pictures of famous records and album covers would also be cool. Add Elvis songs to the karaoke line up, and voila you have an Elvis themed birthday luau.

This is just an example of course, but one you may end up using as there are so many fans in the baby boomer and older generations.

The idea though is to integrate the birthday gal or guy's personality and interests into the theme, just like you would for a traditional birthday party.

Birthday Luau Games

Seniors and other baby boomers will enjoy Hawaiian luau party games like our vintage Hawaiian costume contest and 'Ulumaika - Hawaiian Style Lawn Bowling.

Charades with a Hawaiian twist, using Hawaiian made movie and song titles, and Hawaiian famous places and people is another idea. For a touch of nostalgia you could also add hula hoops or a 60's beach party dance contest.

If you use a party planner or entertainment service they can help you create ideas and put everything into motion. Speaking of entertainment, a nice touch would be to ask the dancers to do a special dance for the birthday gal or guy. However you go about a luau birthday party for your senior is sure to be fun for all!
